The Brokaw-Hanks Fund for Digital Access

As leading figures in the fields of broadcasting, film, and public history, Tom Brokaw and Tom Hanks have shown tireless dedication to passing on inspiring stories from the WWII era. They have also been among The National WWII Museum’s most esteemed allies in conveying the importance and meaning of this pivotal time in our nation’s history.

The Brokaw-Hanks Fund for Digital Access at The National WWII Museum supports digitization of the Museum’s vast and growing collection of artifacts, archival materials, images and oral histories; facilitating online access to invaluable resources, adding capacity for serving teachers, students and others.

At present, the Museum holds more than 7,500 oral histories and other accounts from WWII veterans – including many collected by the Museum’s founder, the late Stephen Ambrose – as well as 150,000 artifacts. Strengthening online access broadens the Museum’s reach to individuals who may never visit the campus while honoring the distinctive contributions of Tom Brokaw and Tom Hanks to the Museum and to America’s memory of WWII – both in words and film.
