'File No.59473 August 23, 1944 Allied arsenal from which bolt was launched Aerial view of a port in Southern Italy before the invasion of Southern France gives an indication of the tremendous stockpile of material the Allies had compiled for the venture. Though this was only one of the ports of departure for the invasion armada, the harbor is thick with shipping, and in the foreground row upon row of tanks, amphibious armored vehicles and trucks are parked for loading operations.' 23 August 1944

The Charles Ives Collection consists of 719 photographs from the Pacific Theater of WWII. Many of the photographs were taken between 1944 and 1945. Mr. Ives inherited the photographs from a friend from Marblehead, Massachusetts who served as an aviator in the Army Air Corps and discharged as a Major in 1945.
