Items from the service of Major Justin Joseph Hanaw, who served in the 9th Traffic Regulation Group, Transportation Corps, Third Army in the European Theater of Operations. Hanaw was born on 2 February 1903 in Mobile, Alabama, where he lived until moving to New Orleans, Louisiana, in the mid 1930s. He married Alice Burkenroad and had two children, John Jerome (Jerry) and Alice, before enlisting in the United States Army on 23 May 1941. Hanaw spent the bulk of his overseas service in France and was honorably discharged on 19 February 1946. He returned to his family in New Orleans, and remained there until his death on 4 November 1978. The collection consists of three V-mails, one letter, and a Hitler Youth knife.
