Translated German caption on photo reverse: "After a successful night mission against the British Isle, this Do 217 was rammed by an English fighter. As the Brit plunged, burning, into the sea, the Do 217, despite a bent right propeller, damaged engine nacelle, torn fuselage and destroyed tail assembly, was able to return to its home base.
