A Filipino woman washes clothes while socializing in the Philippines in 1944

Gift of John M. Lynes Sr., from the Collection of The National WWII Museum
Description:

A Filipino woman washes clothes while socializing. "The Filipino family of the average class, has it womenfolk do most of the work and actual breadwinning. Here is a typical scene in the community, with one woman doing laundry (probably for some serviceman), while another woman is bathing her youngster. The wash tub is invariably a shallow, corrugated iron pan, which the women squat before while scrubbing out the clothing." Philippines 1944
