Material form the service of William J. Young III, who served overseas with the Navy and during stateside duty photographed production at the Gulf Ordnance Plant, Procter & Gamble Defense Corporation, Aberdeen, Mississippi. The Gulf Ordnance Plant opened in November 1942 and remained in operation through 1945. The factory employed more than 10,000 people and produced a varierty of ordnance including 20mm, 40mm, 57mm, 67mm, and 75mm shells, 100-pound bombs and naval tracer ammunition.
