James Douglas served aboard LST 492 in the ETO and PTO during WWII. Douglas was present during the Normandy invasion and was at Omaha Beach on D-Day plus 2 (DD+2). After trips between Southampton, England and Normandy, LST 492 was sent to the Mediterranean for the invasion of southern France and then on to the United States. The LST passed through the Panama Canal and was in Okinawa when the war ended. Douglas traveled aboard the LST to some Japanese ports after the war. The collection consists of two photographs taken by Douglas on Omaha Beach on D-Day plus two. The images show German prisoners onboard LST 492.
