Man in the interior of a cheese cellar, Gorgonzola, Italy, July 1945

Description:

Photograph. Cheesemonger in the interior of a cheese cellar. Official Caption: "Rome, 7/16/45--Good news for cheese lovers--Once again the little Italian town of Gorgonzola near Milan is making the cheese for which the village is world famous. The manufacture of Gorgonzola was interrupted by the German occupation because the invaders seized all the milk products, but craftsmen descended from generations of cheese makers are now back at work. One is shown plugging a cheese during the three month ripening process to determine the progress of the distinctive green mold.--OWI staff photo approved by appropriate military authority.--Serviced by Rome OWI. 7124." Gorgonzola, Italy. 16 July 1945
