557.Photograph 'CinCPac 8005 26 February 1945 Last Stand A die-hard Jap [Japanese] on Iwo Jima gets a blast of liquid flame. Fifth Marine Division riflemen surround the dug-out ready to pour covering fire into the opening. The flame-thrower, supported by covering fire, has been a basic weapon in the cave to cave battle on the volcanic rock.' 26 February 1945

The Charles Ives Collection consists of 719 photographs from the Pacific Theater of WWII. Many of the photographs were taken between 1944 and 1945. Mr. Ives inherited the photographs from a friend from Marblehead, Massachusetts who served as an aviator in the Army Air Corps and discharged as a Major in 1945.
