"File No: 48556 Feb. 25, 1945 Wounded are given aid Wounded Marines are helped to an air station by Navy Medical Corpsman and fellow marines, less seriously wounded. Wrecked American equipment both on the beach and in the water are clearly shown. The Volcanic sand that proved to be such an obstacle to the landing is best illustrated by the depth to which the Jeep in the right foreground has sunk as well as the depth of the footsteps of the men going along the beach." 25 February 1945

The Charles Ives Collection consists of 719 photographs from the Pacific Theater of WWII. Many of the photographs were taken between 1944 and 1945. Mr. Ives inherited the photographs from a friend from Marblehead, Massachusetts who served as an aviator in the Army Air Corps and discharged as a Major in 1945.
