Portrait of Papua New Guinea native in 1944

Gift of John M. Lynes Sr., from the Collection of The National WWII Museum
Description:

Portrait of Papua New Guinea native. "This native is typical of those to be found in the vicinity of Moresby, whose lives are controlled by Angau, a native labor affairs commission, which supplies native labor to Allied troop units and to plantation owners. He is about twenty years old and in another ten years will look like an old man of eighty. The natives here have a life expectancy of approximately thirty to thirty five years."
