American Navy vessel with barrels of oil and high test gas being unloaded. Andy Caola. The two main items we unloaded at Anzio was ammo and gas x. They were the two things that made it a bit risky to be around when air raids occurred and they occurred very frequently. Finally Jan. 29th the USS John Banvard got a near miss. Lost all its engine steam and that meant it lost steam to work winches which is the principle source of power.' Italy. [1943]
